peta would approve

animal friendly taxidermy? as a vegetarian and self appointed animal rights activist i am loving this fabulous trend. check out cardboard safari's shop for more cardboard animal trophies. my husband and I can't decide between the moose head and the rhino.

i love this "bear skin" rug's button eyes! so cute. available here.

does it get any better than this deer head covered in cozy cable knit cashmere? artist rachel denny 's "domestic trophies" make me want to curl up on the couch with a cup of hot chocolate and watch the snow fall.

thanks for checking in. xO.kate

atlantic city here we come

my husband and i are going to a.c. in a couple weeks to celebrate his 30th birthday. i love everything about atlantic city from the cheesy decor at the taj mahal to the salt water taffy. the shopping is great and there are even some pretty amazing restaurants. look at these vintage post card i found. don't those people on the beach look hot in their suits? quite a change from what you see on the beach today. I personally can not wait to wear my black and white polka dot bikini.

where are you going this summer? XxOokate

the kiss

this new piece is now up for sale over at the Fox and the Prints:

it was made with a single piece of linoleum using the "reductive" method of printmaking. there are many stages involved in this printing technique depending on how many colors you are working with. at each stage the block is carved, inked up with a different color and printed, reducing the surface areas and destroying the block in the process. because of this method only a small number of prints can be made with a single block and once you have moved onto the next stage there is no going back. i made only 9 prints of "the kiss" so only 8 of them are available for sale (one is hanging in my office). here are a few things i was inspired by when making my "kiss"

henri de toulouse lautrec- the kiss

constantin brancusi- the kiss

gustav klimt- the kiss

auguste rodin- the kiss

isn't it interesting to see different artists' interpretations of a similar emotion? which one is your favorite? XxOo.kate

loving lace

i am so excited about the upcoming launch of my new print shop. i am in the process of coming up with new deisngs for my line of paper goods and wedding invitations and i am feeling very inspired by vintage lace patterns.

i am in love with the neckaces at white owl. it was the very first thing i ever purchased on etsy and i wear it with everything!

i never used to be a lace person but ever since my wedding i have been crazy for it. i am not a girly girl and i pretty much wear black every day (except on the days where i wear grey) so when i went dress shopping i told the sales assistant that i alsolutly will not wear a dress with lace on it and look what i ended up in...

yes, that is me in my big giant lace gown. what do i know?

i can't wait until my first set of prints are ready to go. here is a sneak peek...

thanks for stopping by...XxOo kate

well hello

So this is my first post on my very first blog. I guess I should start by introduce myself. My name is Kate and I am a wannabe independent artist and printmaker. I do work a "real job" as a Creative Director and Event Designer for a large resort in north east Pennsylvania. I am married to my super supportive husband of 3 years (almost) and have 2 fantastic dogs. Manolo is a Shih tzu and he is 3 years old and Chazz is a Greyhound. Chazz was a racing dog for almost 4 years but now he is retired and loving every minute of it.

I started my first etsy shop: Amelie's Paperie in spring 2009. It took a little while to get off the ground (and figure out what the heck I was doing) but it has actually become pretty successful. I am getting ready to launch my second site the Fox and the Prints which I am VERY excited about.

So I'm not sure where this blog is going to go or what direction it is going to take but stay tuned if you want to follow my journey. It should be fun... XxOo Kate
